The mountains behind Santa Barbara are interlaced with hiking trails which lead to spectacular views and most inspiring environments.
The size of these mountain ridges (off Gibraltar Road) or the cliffs over the Douglas Preserve, shoreline Park, offer spectacular views which can take one’s breath away.
One of the oldest and most active of such groups is the Montecito Trails Foundation, organized in 1964. The Los Padres National Forest together with the city of Santa Barbara Parks and recreation maintain an extensive and beautiful network of trails. The many destinations lead you through can extensive choice of trails from the high peaks and down the water’s edge.
There are many more pictures like these online at a meta-site sponsored by the Santa Barbara Outdoors Galleries. It features hundreds of photos by members of the “Trails Alliance,” a partnership of several civic and environmental groups listed on the Front Country Trails Alliance web site.
