Trinity Episcopal Church is steeped in Santa Barbara history. Among the original founders were Dr. Samuel B. Brinkerhoff (SB’s first resident physician), Dr. James Barron Shaw (an Englishman who managed Santa Cruz ranch), Capt. Martin M. Kimberley (last of the Yankee otter hunters), and Col. Russell Heath (ex-sheriff and owner of world’s largest walnut grove in Carpenteria). Incorporation it is the oldest legally constituted Protestant church in SB. Founded in 1867, it is the oldest Episcopal parish in the diocese of Los Angeles.
The labyrinth, dedicated in 2003, is one of its most engaging features, offering to the public an age-old spiritual exercise that, with perseverance, leads one into, through, and safely out of a symbolic quest.
The music programs are frequently offered to the community.
