All Saints-By-the-Sea was established to relieve Miramar Hotel spa guests (and serving clergy) the 1 1/2 hour buggy ride to Trinity Church in central Santa Barbara. The first unofficial service was held July 31st, 1898 with a congregation of 35, at a temporary chapel. The first official service, in the newly-built church was held November 27th, 1900, with 100 worshippers in attendance.
